There are a slew of activities planned around the Tucson Museum of Art’s “30 Americans” exhibit.
A taste of the free events at the museum — check tucsonmuseumofart.org for a full list.
7-9 p.m. Oct. 5: The doors will be open to the public for the opening reception from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 5. DJ Mista T will provide the entertainment.
6-8 p.m. Oct. 11: Tucson’s Kore Press has a launch party for its book, “Letters to the Future: Black Women/Radical Writing,” a collection of poems, essays, visual arts and conversations from 30 Black women. Publisher’s Weekly says the book is ““a master class in the variety and virtuosity of black women’s art.” The event will feature readings by Dawn Lundy Martin, Erica Hunt, Ruth Ellen Kocher and Giovanni Singleton, and the exhibit will be open during the launch party.
5-8 p.m. Dec. 6: Barbea Williams Performing Co. will entertain with dance, there will be live music, and a chance to create some art.
6 p.m. Dec. 13: Leonardo Drew, one of the artists represented in the “30 Americans” exhibit, discusses his work. Drew’s massive and eye-grabbing “Untitled #25,” a wall of bound cotton bales, has a compelling story behind it that we suspect he’ll tell.
